M is for Milcham

images (10)

Similar to the Phoenix, the Milcham derives from ancient Jewish belief. A beautiful bird that lived in the Garden of Eden. Eve persuaded all the animals to eat the tree of knowledge to be cast out like her. All the animals did this except the Milcham. As a result it gained immortality and lived for 1,000 years. When that time was up it was consumed by fire from which only an egg was left. From this egg grew another Milcham that lived for another 1,000 years.

“1000 years, and then I go up in flames?” Lily asked.

“That’s what it says,” Eli whispered. “How long have you, well.. been you?”

“Just about that long,” Lily said.

Lily ran her hand over her hair and black feathers sifted down around her.

“I’m molting,” she said and tried to smile.

“I think I know how to stop this,” Eli said. “Although I think it will still involve quite  a bit of fire.”

This is an amazing twist! Did I mention the level of awesomeness that is developing–the intriguing mythology that you’re incorporating is epic!
